Not to get carried away with a new Kommnick album requires considerable self-discipline. And when Günther Pauler from Stockfisch was also at the controls, the joy wants no end. The fourth solo album presents the multi-instrumentalist from Wremen at the peak of his musical maturity. Someone who is so in demand as a sideman has every reason to take time for a personal statement at regular intervals. Fifteen enchanting pearls he has shaken out of his magic sleeve. The tone of the production is personal and warm, record and booklet alike. Brilliant tunes for steelstring guitar, even the predominant original compositions sound like classics of Celtic music. Tunings and instruments change gently from track to track - Kommnick is obviously equally at home on all stringed instruments such as bouzouki, mandolin, cello, bass or even harpsichord as he is on guitars, standard and baritone. The touching Reinhard Mey ballad "Lass nun ruhig los das Ruder" reaches great emotional depth even as a pure instrumental. This said Reinhard Mey has then also written the beautiful liner notes.
